What cookies are
Cookies are small files that a website saves in your browser to remember, for example, that you are signed in. Similar technologies include the browser's storage areas (localStorage and sessionStorage).
Which cookies we use
Crelto primarily uses its own cookies needed for the Services to work or to remember your choices. Analytics and advertising cookies from Google, Meta and our own ad attribution cookie are used only if you accept them in the cookie banner.
- better-auth.session_token (with the __Secure- prefix on secure connections): keeps you signed in. Duration: 30 days, renewed while you use your account. When you sign in with Google, short-lived technical cookies are also used to verify the request.
- crelto-language: the language chosen for the interface. Duration: 1 year.
- crelto-location: the country and locality you chose. Duration: 1 year.
- crelto-onboarding-deferred: remembers that you postponed completing your account. Duration: 1 year.
- crelto-ref: when you open a friend's invitation link, remembers who invited you so the invitation can be credited to them. Duration: 30 days.
- crelto_student_session: keeps you signed in to the student portal. Duration: 30 days.
- crelto_board_…: keeps a guest's access to a board shared by a teacher. Duration: 90 days.
- crelto-social-oauth: protects the connection of a social media account. Duration: 15 minutes.
- crelto-cookie-consent: remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics and advertising cookies. Duration: 6 months. crelto-ad-attribution: only after acceptance, stores an ad visit identifier to attribute messages sent in Crelto. Duration: 7 days; the source is attached to the conversation after its first message. Message text is not stored in the cookie. crelto-replay-consent: remembers consent for session recording, requested separately from the previous Google and Meta consent. Duration: 6 months. crelto-replay-visitor: only after acceptance, a random identifier that groups visits for session analysis. Duration: 30 days.
Local browser storage
For your convenience, we keep a few preferences and drafts in your browser: whether the side menu is collapsed, the position of the AI assistant window and the last conversation opened, unsaved drafts in editors, domains saved as favorites or added to the cart, and a record of the pages already counted as views in the current session. The exercises in the tools for teachers also keep in your browser the student's progress (stars, rewards and where they left off) and, if a teacher creates a profile directly in the exercises, their email address and the classes and students added there, with their names and passwords. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us automatically; only the progress of students who practise through the student portal is also saved on our servers, so that the teacher can follow it. After analytics consent, sessionStorage stores the Crelto session identifier and temporarily a batch of events with entered values masked, so uploading can resume after a network interruption. These events are sent to Crelto servers for session replay; withdrawing consent stops recording and clears its local data.
Third-party cookies
Only if you accept analytics and advertising cookies, crelto.com loads two tools. Google Tag Manager (Google Ireland) loads Google Analytics, which sets the _ga and _ga_… cookies, lasting up to 2 years, so we can see in aggregate statistics which pages are visited and where visitors come from. The Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms Ireland) sets the _fbp cookie (and _fbc when you arrive at Crelto from an ad), lasting 90 days, and sends Meta the pages you visit and a Contact event after the first message attributed to an ad, so we can measure Crelto ads on Facebook and Instagram and show them to people who visited the site. Neither is loaded in the mobile apps or on websites built by users. Videos embedded by users (for example from YouTube, in its no-cookie version, Vimeo or Loom) are loaded from those services' servers, which may set their own cookies. When you sign in with Google, the sign-in page belongs to Google and Google's policy applies.
Websites built with Crelto
Websites published by users with Crelto do not use cookies for statistics. Visits are counted by a cryptographic fingerprint of the IP address and browser, which changes every month and does not allow us to identify you. The IP address is not stored.
How to control cookies
You can view and delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can block them. If you block or delete the necessary cookies, you will be signed out, some features will stop working, and the language and locality will return to their defaults.
You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer of Crelto pages. If you withdraw consent, Google and Meta tools no longer load, their cookies (_ga, _fbp, _fbc and the others above) and crelto-ad-attribution are deleted, and new messages are no longer attributed to ads. Crelto session recording also stops immediately, and the crelto-replay-visitor identifier and local unsent batch are deleted. Previously uploaded recordings remain for no more than 30 days.
