How do you avoid comparing different measured areas?
For a simple ceiling, start with the plan area. For wall lining, measure length and height. A 4 × 2.5 m partition has a geometric area of 10 m², but its two faces require 20 m² of board in a single layer. The estimate should state whether the rate applies to the 10 m² partition or the surface of each face. Do not double the price before establishing the contractor’s convention.
Pipe boxing may be priced per linear metre rather than m². Specify width, depth, number of faces and the access hatch. To compare two offers, request the same board thickness and number of layers, framing and insulation. Basic installation cannot be directly compared with a package already including joints, skim coats and paint.
What would an 18 m² ceiling and 4 metres of boxing cost?
Example calculated from the list: ceiling 18 × 170 = 3,060 MDL; 4 metres of decorative boxing at the starting rate, 4 × 150 = 600 MDL. Assume another 12 metres of joints charged separately: 12 × 35 = 420 MDL. Subtotal: 4,080 MDL. Those 12 metres are an illustrative assumption to verify against the actual layout. If joint taping is already included in installation, do not pay for it again.
