Do you need plaster, a skim coat or just paint?
These operations solve different problems. Plaster corrects the substrate’s geometry; a skim coat provides the fine finish; paint supplies the final colour. Do not automatically add every stage to every wall. Ask the contractor to mark what needs replacement and what can remain. A quote for “painting” should specify crack repairs, skim coats, sanding, primer and furniture protection.

| Interior skim coat for painting, walls or ceiling | 150 MDL | m² |

Source: Euroremont price list (opens in a new tab), checked 15 October 2026. Plaster without floating and plaster on guides have different scopes. Included material quantities are not detailed: request separate materials, protection, transport and waste items. Published minimum: 1,000 MDL per working day.
What does finishing a 4 × 3 metre room cost?
For a 4 × 3 m room with a height of 2.6 m, the walls total 2 × (4 + 3) × 2.6 = 36.4 m². In this example, deduct 4.4 m² for the door and window, leaving 32 m². Add the 12 m² ceiling and you finish 44 m², although the floor is only 12 m².
Assuming a full skim coat, sanding, one primer coat and two paint coats: 44 × (150 + 20 + 10 + 60) = 10,560 MDL for the listed items. If the 32 m² of walls also need gypsum plaster on guides, add at least 32 × 180 = 5,760 MDL; the subtotal becomes at least 16,320 MDL. This is our calculation, not an offer. Materials, stripping, special repairs and additional primer coats are outside it; check that the actual estimate avoids charging for the same operation twice.
What should you check before choosing a painter?
Itemise areas and stages
- Each wall and ceiling measured, with an agreed rule for openings.
- Plaster thickness and the finish required before painting.
- Number of skim, primer and paint coats; whether sanding is included.
- Crack repairs, floor protection and moving furniture.
- Selected materials, intervals between stages and final inspection in daylight.
How do you request quotes in Bălți, Orhei, Ungheni and Cahul?
For Bălți, obtain a local estimate for identical stages without assuming a discount against Chișinău. In Orhei, state whether the apartment is furnished: protection and access may change the quote. For Ungheni, establish who buys and delivers materials as each stage requires them. In Cahul, ask whether repeated journeys between stages are included when hiring a crew from another town. Local rates have not been verified here; compare the total for the same area and starting condition.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a skim coat in Chișinău?
Euroremont lists 150 MDL/m² for interior skim coats intended for painting. Sanding appears separately at 20 MDL/m²; confirm the included operations.
Is painting priced by floor area?
These items use the surface actually finished. Calculate walls from perimeter and height, deducting openings as agreed, and add the ceiling separately.
Can a skim coat replace plaster?
Do not treat them as equivalent. The substrate’s condition and unevenness determine preparation; request an assessment and thicknesses before a final price.
Is labour the same price across Moldova?
We cannot confirm one national rate. Obtain comparable local quotes and check transport, minimum charges and materials separately.
